BUSINESS OVERVIEW

The Environmental Academy was established in 2006 as a training and consultancy provider in the environmental management space. The Company gained recognition as a centre for excellence that delivered and specialised in online and classroom-based environmental vocational training to employees and management-level team members of both industry and public sector clients. The Environmental Academy was an IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) approved training centre, and has developed courses for the Institute of Leadership and Management and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

The Company also provided consultancy services helping clients to develop environmental management systems designed to achieve certification to international standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001 and Health and Safety Systems (OHSAS 18001). Previously, the Company has successfully run several European projects.

The Company has received excellent feedback from its clients and has achieved level 1 outstanding training provider status upon assessment from the Adult Learning Inspectorate. Particular market recognition has been gained for the online courses offered via the e-Learning platform. In addition, the Company website has achieved considerable organic search traffic and features on the first page of Google searches for the term “environmental awareness course”. Clients of the Company included Aston Martin, JCB, Royal Sun Alliance, Tyne & Wear Fire Brigade and Newcastle College, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and National Health Service.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Environmental Academy developed excellent classroom based training products and a suite of sustainability masterclasses. Course development has benefitted from a substantial amount of quality research carried out over a number of years to provide candidates with the best possible learning experience. The courses have been recognised by the IEMA and are marketed on the IEMA portal. All classroom courses include PowerPoint presentations, lesson plans, guidance notes and interactive classroom activities. Additional material includes paper manuals available alongside full electronic materials.

The Environmental Academy’s highly popular IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management course is the only vocational route to obtain Associate-level membership with IEMA. The course is delivered through an online course and four workshops, with access to an e-portfolio for assignments.

The Environmental Academy offered six generic online courses, which were immediately available for individuals and companies to purchase via its e-Learning platform. The online courses were developed to a very high standard and offer a flexible all-round learning experience with the option to generate printable completion certificates with learners’ details. Bespoke courses can also be developed from these programmes to address specific client requirements.

The online courses have been developed and run on a Moodle learning management system attached to the Company’s website, which serves as a gateway to the e-Learning area. Moodle has been adapted internally by the Company’s IT team to store and run the online courses. The system is designed to be fully customisable in order to enable bespoke courses to be compiled to suit client requirements.
