A publicly traded food & beverage company that operates out of North America and generates revenue from the sale of four distinct food brands. The Company places an emphasis on taste, performance, nutrition and sustainability, and partners with distributors and brokers around North America to supply grocery retailers and foodservice partners. At the time of valuation, the Company generated revenues of c.$12m.
After receiving its IPSCORETM as an IP100 entrant, we were engaged by the Company to provide valuation advice in relation to the IP Portfolio, that would be utilized to inform its fundraising activities.
We adopted our unique information discovery process, Metisology®, to identify all the IP assets vesting in the business at the date of valuation. We identified the following IP assets were critical in underpinning revenues and providing the Company with competitive advantage:
- key organizational knowledge, including trade secrets, related to formulations, ingredient and process technologies, production specifications, which directly underpinned revenues;
- a corporate brand that gained awareness from its IPO, along with a portfolio of uniquely positioned, award-winning product brands that were stocked by notable health-focused grocery stores including Sprouts, Kroger, and Albertsons, across the US; and
- B2C and B2B customer databases actively used for outgoing marketing and financial forecasting.
We delivered the intellectual property valuation on a Fair Value basis. This together with the Company’s IPSCORETM , assisted the approaches and introductions to lenders that we identified are interested in high growth, IP-rich businesses.
