Letter from America – 28.10.18 – #BCFC Gathers to Give Back!

I had the great privilege of attending this fundraiser in Boston for what is an admirable cause.  The great and the good from the corporate finance community were in attendance and I had been told it would be an essential “networking” opportunity for me.  Little did I know that I would travel 2500 miles, settle my family in California, attend an unfamiliar event in Boston and…. meet a fellow #ICAS member David Clark Citizens bank. I first met Dave while we were both training to be Chartered Accountants in Scotland almost 30 years ago. Who would have thought the connection we made all those years ago and becoming part of the #ICAS network would provide potential opportunities to do business all this time later?  And yes, I did meet him at the bar – as we jostled to get noticed by a server and get a drink – you can take the bloke outta Scotland…On the night I met a bunch of terrific people who seemed genuinely interested in the increasingly important role that intellectual property is now playing in both creating dedicated royalty-based revenue streams and providing security for lenders who are keen to exploit the significant returns available on alternative assets.   Thank you to Daniel Williams GA, Mike Wyse Wyse Advisers, Cherly Carner Crystal, James Murcam APOLLO, Spencer Ware Alix Partners; who introduced me with enthusiasm and helped me extend my US professional network.

And if you haven’t noticed, Halloween is almost here and then its Christmas and I did laugh when I got an update on a tech newsletter about reindeer tracking technology being developed back in Scotland which did get me thinking of all those tech-savvy kids hacking into the system to tag #dasher and #prancer to anticipate their arrival on the roof on Xmas Eve!

So until my next Metis Letter from America I hope you have a great weekend!
