Engagement

Metis Partners was initially appointed by the Company to manage an accelerated IP M&A process.  Within a matter of weeks, the business went into administration and ceased trading. We were appointed by Opus Restructuring to continue the marketing and sale of the business and IP assets owned by Fluidic Analytics Limited (in Administration) (“Fluidic Analytics” or the “Company”).

Company

Fluidic Analytics was established in 2013 as a spin-out from the University of Cambridge, UK, and was formed to commercialise over a decade’s worth of research into the behaviour of disordered proteins. The Company designed, developed and manufactured tools, software and services for protein characterisation for customers in the neuroscience, cancer research and immunology spaces, and had been backed by circa £50m in investment to date from PE, VC and other funds.

Highlight of this IP Sale

Despite the significant time constraints, we managed a thorough marketing process underpinned by impactful IP marketing materials focused on the scale of the opportunity available to potential acquirers. Following extensive marketing, we attracted multiple interested parties, including some US public companies into the M&A process. We secured a six figure return which was an outstanding result, given the ongoing administration and break in trading which had been quickly diminishing the value of the Company’s IP assets over a two month period.
