The Client

Metis Partners was appointed by BDO LLP to sell the IP assets of a jewelry designer and retailer. The Company was established in the 1960s as a leading designer, manufacturer, and retailer of classic and contemporary jewelry. From its roots in the Scottish Orkney Islands, the Company expanded to generate an annual turnover in excess of $10m, selling through branded stores, online via its e-commerce website and wholesale to B2B customers.

The Assignment

Metis Partners was engaged by BDO LLP to conduct an intensive sales and marketing campaign to maximize the return from the sale of the The Company's IP assets when the Company was in financial distress.

Our Approach

We relied on our Metisology® approach to discover and appraise the value of the IP assets linked to The Company's brand. In addition to assessing the value of the brand-related assets we uncovered a critical design portfolio containing in excess of 10,000 design and jewelry samples and a customer database with over 25,000 active customers.

We compiled a bespoke global database of potentially interested parties and launched a full sales and marketing exercise to generate awareness and interest. We achieved broad press coverage, including the BBC. This IP bundle attracted significantly more interest than was expected from just the sale of the brand.

The Outcome

Metis Partners received numerous offers and saw a substantial uplift on the original proposition. This successful marketing campaign and the sale of the IP secured a significant return for creditors and facilitated a successful turnaround and relaunch of this heritage brand.
